On my graduation day, crowned with the Italian ghirlanda d'alloro ('laurel wreath'). Crowning graduates with it is an Italian tradition and a symbol of culture, knowledge, and wisdom — the same reason Dante and Petrarch are depicted wearing one.
My nickname is giuliocsr (pronounced "giulio caesar") — a nod to Julius Caesar, the great emperor who now lives in his palace in Las Vegas.
I am a researcher and engineer working across hardware design and security, applied cryptography, and machine learning. I hold an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan (2024) and a B.Sc. from the University of Bologna (2021). My Master's thesis on the side-channel analysis of SHA-256 won the national DECIFRIS award.
Some of the works I did were post-quantum secure processors (a RISC-V core coupled with an ML-DSA lattice-signature accelerator, prototyped on FPGA), lattice-based NIZKP protocols for anonymous yet auditable transactions on a distributed bank ledger, and power/EM side-channel cryptanalysis on an embedded device. Lately I have been focusing on distributionally robust deep reinforcement learning — teaching trading agents to hedge against the worst-case market, which so far makes them more disciplined investors than I am. I am based in Texas, return to Italy often enough to keep my coffee standards intact, and have also lived in Singapore.
